This weekend offered several free things to do with your kids. If your kids are into arts and crafts Home Depot, Michael’s and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort offered free kids workshops. If your child prefers more physical fun then several area bowling alleys participate in the “Kids Bowl Free” promotion.
The first Saturday of every month Home Depot offers their free Kids Workshop where children get to build a project out of wood. The kids get a free Home Depot apron, a commemorative pin and certificate of achievement upon completion of the project. And of course they get to keep the project they build.

This Saturday, April 2, 2016, the project was a butterfly house. It consisted of five pieces of wood nailed and screwed together. It took around 15-20 minutes to complete. As the name suggests, the project was a butterfly house where one could place a small piece of fruit inside the box for butterflies to snack on. Be sure to register online for next month’s workshop.

The arts and crafts store Michael’s host their Kids Club every Saturday. Although technically not free the registration fee is only two dollars thus it’s almost free.

This weekend’s project was a paper kite. The kids got to design and build their own kite made from a single piece of white printer paper. After drawing a design on the paper the instructors showed the kids how to fold the paper to make the kite. Then they taped a wide popsicle stick across the top to make it more sturdy and cut out streamers from cardboard paper to add to the tail of the kite. The kids tested the kite outside in a slight breeze and proved the kite did, in fact, fly! Be sure to register online for next Saturday’s Kid’s Club.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort offers free drawing lessons three times a day every day. A trained Disney artist goes step by step through the process of drawing a different Disney character every day. The class takes about thirty minutes and the kids get to keep their drawing at the end. This class is on a first-come, first-served basis with no pre-registration required.

Finally, several area bowling alleys are participating in the “Kids Bowl Free” promotion. After registering online, participants receive free bowling coupons for their kids good for two free games per day. These coupons are good for every day of the week up until 4PM. The kids still have to rent their bowling shoes if they don’t bring their own and adults have to purchase their own game if they wish to bowl as well.

So get out there and have fun with your kids!
